EAST LANSING, Mich. – The top quarterback in the NCAA transfer portal has committed to Michigan State football.

Aidan Chiles, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, chose to follow former Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith to East Lansing after his freshman season.

Chiles was the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall player in the portal this offseason, according to 247 Sports.

Last season with the Beavers, Chiles completed 24 of 35 pass attempts for 309 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions while backing up D.J. Uiagalelei. He also rushed for 79 yards and three scores on 17 carries.

The Spartans lost all of their scholarship quarterbacks to the portal last month, so Chiles will get a chance to start next season.

This is the first massive win for Smith at Michigan State. He took over a team that finished 4-8 last season after losing its head coach in September.
