Woman must make written apology under plea deal

An Ohio woman pleaded guilty this week to leaving a race-based and politically motivated death threat to a Michigan state representative in 2021.

On Wednesday, May 15, Sandra Bachman, 61, of Batavia, Ohio, pled guilty in Ingham County to charges after making a death threat to then-Michigan state representative Cynthia Johnson in June 2021. Bachman pleaded guilty under a plea agreement reached with the state.

Bachman pleaded guilty this week to the following charges brought against her in 2022:

  • One count of threat of terrorism, attempt, a 5-year felony.
  • One count of ethnic intimidation, a 2-year misdemeanor.
  • One count of malicious use of telecommunication services, a 6-month misdemeanor.

Under the plea agreement, Bachman has to provide a written apology to Johnson and ongoing mental health assessment and treatment.
