Fun in Louisville extends past the Kentucky Derby

You can enjoy bourbon, music, and beyond

The national spotlight will be on the Kentucky Derby this weekend, but the fun in Louisville will continue all year-round.

This year marks the 150th “Run for the Roses,” which will be held Saturday at the historic Churchill Downs.

“Churchill Downs has just completed a large, three-year renovation, adding more premium seating and fun group experiences,” said Nicole Fitzpatrick, the community relations manager with Louisville Tourism. She said they also just redesigned the paddock area, which is where you can see the horses up-close before races.

Mint juleps are popular at the Kentucky Derby, but that’s not the only drink you can bet people will be pouring in Louisville. There’s also a variety of new bourbon experiences for visitors.

“Louisville is embracing its bluegrass routes as the genre was born in Kentucky, just like bourbon,” Fitzpatrick said. LouGrass is a celebration of music that features free, live bluegrass genre performances at various locations in Louisville. LouGrass runs seasonally from April through October.
