Investigators believe alcohol a factor in crash

WATERTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two people were killed and 14 others were injured when a driver struck a group of pedestrians walking on the shoulder of the road in Clinton County.

Deputies said a driver struck a group of pedestrians at around 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the area of South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road in Watertown Township. The group was walking on the shoulder of the road when the driver struck them.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Thirteen others were transported to area hospitals with injuries that range from life threatening to minor. Deputies said the victims range in age from toddler to senior citizen.

The driver left the scene and was stopped by deputies several miles away. The driver has been identified as a 35-year-old woman from Perrinton, Michigan. She was arrested and is being held in the Clinton County Jail.

The crash is under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
